Verone Gabby, 90, of Bagley, died Monday, March 26, 2007 at Greensview Health Care Center in Bagley, Minnesota. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 31, at Faith Hill Assembly of God Church in Bagley, with Pastor Gary Fry officiating. Interment was at the Bagley City Cemetery.
Verone was born on December 26 1916 in Lake Mills, Iowa, the daughter of Selma and Arne Holstad. She grew up in Lake Mills and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1934. Verone married Thomas Gabby on July 3, 1938 in Forest City, Iowa. They lived in Rosemont, Minnesota, Kimbelton, Iowa, Renwick, Iowa, and Halstad, Minnesota before moving to Bagley in June 1954. Verone worked as a bookkeeper for the Bagley Public Utilities for about 25 years and for Anderson Drug Store for two years. In 1979 Tom and Verone moved into the Otterkill Garden Apartments where they were the caretakers for about 13 years. Verone had a special love for husband Tom, their three children, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; Her many interests include knitting, crocheting, reading, singing and playing her omnichord and serving the Lord through her volunteer work. This included being a member of the women's intercessory prayer group and a regular volunteer at Greensview Care Center and the Good Samarian Center at Clearbrook. For many years she led singing and Bible study at the two centers. Verone always felt that she was the one blessed through her volunteer work. She also enjoyed the many family gatherings held over the years at their cabin on Upper Red Lake.
Verone is survived by her husband Thomas of Bagley; son, Vincent Gabby of Grand Forks, North Dakota, daughtrers, Louise Fultz of Bagley, and Laurel Rager of Midland, Ohio; seven grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; also several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Morris and James Holstad; and sisters, Alice and Lillian.
