Luke L. Boone --Formerly of La Grande

October 30, 1917- November 19, 2010

Luke Llewellyn Boone, 93, of Maryville, Mo., and formerly of La Grande died Nov. 19. Visitation will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church. A service will begin at 1 pm Saturday at the Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church Maryville. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa, at 1 p.m. Monday. Price Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Oct. 30, 1917, in Galt, Iowa, to Luke Algernon and Rose Alma King Boone. He married Ada Adele Whitley in Fayette, Iowa, Aug. 11, 1940. She preceded him in death on June 21, 1941. He married Rosie Marie Lienemann in Van Meter, Iowa, Dec. 27, 1948. She preceded him in death on April 6, 1958.

L.L. graduated from Dows, Iowa, Independent High School in 1935. He graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in August 1939. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945. He did post graduate work at Upper Iowa University between 1945 and 1948. He completed his master’s degree at the University of Iowa in June 1951. He did additional graduate study at Iowa in 1952 and 1953 and at Michigan State University in 1968. L.L. was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maryville. He was a life member of the National Education Association and The Missouri State Teachers Association. Also, he was a member since 1951 of Phi Delta Kappa, a professional education fraternity and The Association of Educational Communication and Technology, his professional organization since 1952. He served as chair of the AECT History and Archives Committee for many years. Boone taught in junior and senior high schools in Iowa and Illinois and served as a coach for athletics and drama activities. He was director of the Audio-Visual Aide Extension at Eastern Oregon College in La Grande from 1953-1957. He taught at Northwest Missouri State University from 1958 until his retirement as professor emeritus in 1988. His final assignment was as associate professor in learning resources and head of Audiovisual and Curriculum Materials Resources at Northwest. Boone was a member of the Maryville Bowling Association and a life member of The Amateur Bowlers Tour.

Survivors include his son, Luke Clifford Boone of Stanberry, Mo.; and daughter, Twyla Marie Hazen of Maryville; sisters, Bessie Ritter and Darlene Balsar of Clarion, Iowa; sister-in-law, Beverly Boone of Albert Lea, Minn.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Chessle Boone; and sisters Bonnie Osborne and Verla Lundahl. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maryville or the Northwest Missouri State University Foundation.
