Rev. F. William Hilker, age 86, peacefully entered his eternal reward on November 1, 2010. He was born on September 30, 1924 in Perth Amboy, N.J. He graduated from Perth Amboy High School and Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. On July 12, 1947 he married his college sweetheart, Astrid Johnson and that fall he entered Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN. He served a year of student internship in Detroit, MI and graduated from Luther Theological Seminary in 1951. He was ordained in 1951 and served parishes in Ames, Spirit Lake, Clarion, Cedar Rapids and Central City, Iowa. Upon his retirement in 1986 they moved to Spokane and then he began a 23 year ministry as a Chaplain at the V. A. Medical Center in Spokane. He also served interim ministries at Calvary Lutheran Church and Westview Congregational Church, Spokane.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, three children: Fred (Jean) Hilker, Spokane, Kae (Jeff) Johnson, Spokane, and David (Beth) Hilker Phoenix, AZ. Nine grandchildren: Jessica (Mike) Glandon, Cedar Rapids, IA, Dan (Jamie) Hilker, Spokane, Jordan and Luke Hilker, Spokane, Annaliese (Austin) Neale, San Jose, CA, Brenton Johnson, Spokane, Karina Johnson, Seattle, Cade and Shawn Hilker, Phoenix. Six great-grandchildren: Bryant Rader and Justine Glandon, Cedar Rapids, IA, Rylee and Addisyn Hilker, Spokane, Sam and Jack Neale, San Jose, CA. Niece, Nancy (Bill) Massengill, Piedmont, CA and nephew Hal Koyen, St. James, MN and cousin Christine (Bob) Egner, Hillsdale, N.J. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and two sisters. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to Luther Theological Seminary or St. Luke's Seminary Fund. A celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9706 N. Division at 2:00P.M. on Thursday, November 11, 2010, with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating.
