Alan D. Fuller, 69, died at his home in Bellevue, Iowa on September 4, 2010. He had been ill with pulmonary fibrosis for a number of years. Services were held September 9 in Countryside, IL.
Alan Duane was born May 27, 1941, the son of Mac and Emma Fuller, and one of seven children. He grew up in Goodell and attended elementary school there. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1959 where he played football. At an early age Alan began hammering nails into every available board, and he continued to do this his entire life. His avocation was building. As a young man he moved to the Chicago area where he worked for General Motors for 29 years and was active in UAW Local 719.
Alan married Helen Luick in 1959 and they had four children: Kim Brian, Glenn and Jeff. Later he married Nancy Murphy, and they were together for 35 years. Alan loved the river, and for many years he vacationed in Bellevue. He taught his children and grandchildren to waterski. Upon retiring ten years ago he made his permanent residence there.
He was preceded in death by son Brian; and sisters Evelyn Jean (in infancy) and Ruth Ann Kling. Survivors include his wife Nancy; children Kim, Glenn and Jeff of the Chicago area; step children Lisa Murphy, Beverly Millsap and Brian Murphy; 19 grandchildren; and siblings Loretta Ruppert, Lorraine Ruka, Glenn Fuller and Bruce Fuller.
