Janice Ilene Thompson was born in Corwith on Sept. 14, 1931, the only daughter and second child of Leo O. and Gayle T. (Richards) Thompson. She attended schools in Corwith and Clear Lake. For a period of time during her adulthood, Jan lived and worked in St. Paul, Minn., however, she resided most of her life in the Mason City area, which is where she met and developed a deep companionship with Alvin Muth over two decades ago. Many in the community will recall Jan’s employment at various businesses, however, she is particularly remembered as a cafeteria aide at the Mason City Schools for over 10 years. She retired in 1991. Some of Jan’s leisure activities included all types of dancing with Al, she was especially fond of country music, attending county fairs and rummage sales, going for rides, dining out and playing games of chance at area casinos. She loved tending to her rose bushes and her pet cat, Callie, collecting figurines and beanie babies and watching television. Jan met new friends easily and is described as a kind, easy-going and talkative woman!

Jan is survived by her life companion, Alvin “Al” Muth of Mason City; her daughter, Linda Perry of Tulsa, Okla.; her three grandsons, Jerry, Steven and Chance; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Preceding Janice in death are her parents, Leo and Gayle Thompson, and her brother, Dean Thompson. Fullerton Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City.
