GENEVA, Ohio - Florence Rose (Bower) Neal, age 105, formerly of East Erie St., Jefferson, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the Sanctuary of Geneva. She was born July 1, 1904, in Albany, Ore., the daughter of Clark Anderson and Cora (Mills) Bower, and although she loved her home state of Colorado, she had been a Jefferson resident since 1993. A graduate of Cotner College in Lincoln, Neb., she also attended Harris Teachers College and University of Missouri in St. Louis, Mo. She worked as an in-home special education teacher for 23 years in St. Louis before her retirement in 1970, educating children who were unable to attend school for various reasons. A longtime member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), she was a gifted piano and organ player and regularly played for her church. She enjoyed music, walking, hiking in the mountains, reading and people. She was proud to have written her life story as an eternal memento for her children.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. E. Lee Neal, whom she married June 21, 1931; daughters, Juanita Mountjoy of Jefferson and Donna Lee (Rolf) Hemmerich of Springfield, Ore.; son, Darrel Clark (Carolyn) Neal of Florissant, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Debra, Tom, Kathleen, Daniel, Julie, Mark, John, Daniel Ryan, Mary, Deborah and David; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Thomas E. Mountjoy; brother, Paul Edward Bower; sister, Daisy Rebecca (Bower) Day; and her parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 17th, at United Church of Geneva, 75 S. Broadway, Geneva, with the Rev. Bob Cunningham officiating, assisted by the Rev. Richard Elwell. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, the United Church of Geneva or the Disciples of Christ Pension Fund. DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, has charge of arrangements.
