Harold Arthur Reddel was born on January 9, 1915, near LuVerne, Iowa, to Gustav and Ottilie Rosenau Reddel. He received his education in the country school system near LuVerne and the Lutheran Parochial School in LuVerne. After his schooling, Harold farmed with his parents on the home place and also worked for the neighbors on their farms. Harold was married to Donna Lenz on December 15, 1937, at the Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne. The couple lived near LuVerne and farmed for Carl Swanson. Harold then farmed with his brother-in-law, Gordon Lenz for a time and then farmed the home place near LuVerne until the spring of 1958, when he and Donna moved north of Wesley, Iowa and farmed there until 1979, when they retired and moved into Wesley. Harold was an active member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Corwith, Iowa, where he had been a Sunday School teacher and the Sunday School Superintendent. He also belonged to the Lutheran Brotherhood and sang in the choir. Harold enjoyed woodworking and gave many of his beautiful wood items to friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing and reading. Harold loved music, especially Polka and Christian music and was a member of a Men’s Quartet that performed for various local functions. Harold loved his family very much and his faith in God was very strong. He made sure that this faith was passed on to his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Harold died suddenly at his home in Wesley on Monday, July 12, 2004. He was 89. Harold is survived by his wife, Donna of Wesley and his children, Eldon Reddel and wife, Viola, Riceville, Iowa Sharon J. Hoffmann, Mason City, Iowa, Delores Glawe and husband, Dennis, Wesley, Iowa, Carol Oxley and husband, Steve, State Center, Iowa, Kathryn Ann Reddel, Algona, Iowa, Linda Steffensen and husband, Darwin, Racine, Wisconsin and Larry Reddel and wife, Mary, Algona, Iowa. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, 3 step great-great grandchildren, his brother-in-law, Gordon Lenz and his sister-in-law, Luella Lenz. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law, Donald Hoffman, 5 brothers, John, Ernie Carl, Bill and Walt Reddel and 2 sisters, Bertha Paling and Elsie Oberhelman.
