Florence Lucille (Hash) Eden was born March 22, 1921, at Corwith, daughter of Lester and Flora (Bosworth) Hash. She grew up in the Corwith area and spent five years in Missouri. She returned to Corwith for her senior year graduating in 1937. She did housework for a year and then went to Iowa State Teachers College, now known as the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1940 with an Elementary Education Degree. She taught for two years in Burt and two years in Pocahontas.

Florence married Lester Eden on August 27, 1944 at the First Baptist Church in Corwith. They had three daughters, Brenda, Marlys, and Rachel. They raised corn, soybeans, hay, and oats on their farm along with many animals including: horses, cattle, hogs, sheep, chickens, peacocks, and some geese. Florence enjoyed gardening, bowling, swimming, reading, quilting, and doing crossword puzzles. She was a 4-H leader for 20 years and she held many offices in the UMW. Florence was also chairman for “Apple Pie Day” for many years. She was a member of the Care Center Helpmates, and did many programs there. Florence did substitute teaching at school for many years. In 1987, Florence and Lester started wintering in Lake Havasu City, AZ, home of the London Bridge. While there, they enjoyed many “cook outs” with friends. Florence appreciated being able to continue wintering there until this past year.

Florence L. Eden died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City at the age of 89. She now resides in heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom she received into her heart at an evangelistic tent crusade as a teenager. She treasured time spent with her three loving grandchildren, Andrea Nedved of Eagle Lake, MN, Adrienne Nedved, a student at Drake University, Des Moines, and Richard Dengler, a student at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. In addition to her grandchildren, she is also survived by her daughters, Brenda Eden-Mills of Burt, Marlys Dengler and her husband Greg of Cedar Rapids, and Rachel Nedved and her husband Tom of Eldora; two brothers, Ralph Hash and his wife Adeline of Reno, NV, and Les Hash and his wife Cindy of San Antonio, TX; one sister, Thelma Forbes of LeGrand; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, on September 12, 1993; her sister, Wanda Baughman; and her son-in-law, Robert Mills.
