Eagle Grove, IA -- Donald C. Newcomb, the son of Edwin and Edna (Wood) Newcomb, was born on May 17, 1923, on a farm west of Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High in 1941. Don then attended Iowa State University. On February 23, 1947, was united in marriage with Marian Black at Webster City. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove, living and farming south of town in Troy Township. Donald was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. He also served as past president of the Coop Elevator Board and was involved with many community activities and projects. Don and Marian wintered in Arizona for several years. Marian preceded Don in death on October 26, 2004.
Don passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge at the age of 87 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Marcia Ann Jochims on September 23, 1985; a brother, Monroe Newcomb and a sister, Norma Ringer. Survivors include his three sons: Terry Newcomb and wife Karen of Slater, Ron Newcomb and wife Leslie of Centerville, OH and Dave Newcomb and wife Patty of Wheaton, IL; seven grandchildren: Chris Newcomb and wife Teri, Lisa Wayman and husband Mark, Matthew, Erica, Austin and wife Ashley, Dylan, and Morgan Newcomb; seven great-grandchildren: Jacob, Nathan, Maggie, Carly, Nick, Caiden and Kylar; sister, Dorothy Helgevold of California and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 16, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family invites you for a time of fellowship and refreshments at the United Methodist Church, immediately following the services. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
