Morris John Kuper, Sr. was born in Belmond, Iowa on December 29, 1924. He was the firstborn son of Casper and Agnes (Haverly) Kuper. He died on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, in Edmond, Oklahoma. Morris left us with the hope of heaven, surrounded by prayer and strengthened by the sacraments of his Catholic faith, with his wife Kathleen holding his hand. Well done, good and faithful servant. Upon his graduation from Alexander High School in Iowa in 1942, Morris joined the Navy and was stationed in Norman, Oklahoma where he was honorably discharged. He met a lovely young lady named Anita Kathleen Stephenson. He and Kathleen were engaged on her birthday that November and married on his birthday, December 29, 1946 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. Morris worked as a butcher prior to beginning his lifetime career at OG&E. He retired from OG&E in 1985 after 36 years. He and Kathleen enjoyed their retirement years traveling around the U.S. For many years until his illness Morris was one of the money counters at St. John's. Morris was a man who took great joy in his family. He and Kathleen were the proud parents of four sons, Stephen, Morris John Jr., Scott, and Thomas. He and Kathleen were married for 63 years. He leaves a legacy of faithful dedication to God and family. Morris was preceded in death by his parents Casper and Agnes Kuper, his brother Harold Kuper, his sister Lois Jean Meitz, his brother-in-law Larry Fennel, Kathleen's parents Tom and Sadie Stephenson, brother-in-law Walter Hume, and brother-in-law Bill Stephenson. He is survived by his son Stephen and wife Trish, grandchildren Kristie Deitz, Michelle, Claire, Cecelia and John Kuper, and great-grandchildren Shawnlyn and Ashley Deitz; his son Morris John, Jr. and wife Cheryl; his son Scott and wife Donna and granddaughter Ariel LaMontagne; and his son Thomas and wife Beth, and grandchildren Caroline, Ford and Lara Kuper. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Fennel, sister-in-law Janet Hume, sister-in-law Jackie Stephenson, brother-in-law Marvin Meitz and wife Evelyn, nieces and nephews, and many of Kathleen's extended family whom he considered his own. A Wake Service will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 7PM on Friday, September 10, 2010. The Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of his life will be at 10AM on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 9th and Littler in Edmond, OK. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
