BELMOND, IA - Brianne M. Pals, 20, of Belmond passed away Monday (Sept. 6, 2010) as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Funeral services for Brianne will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond with Pastor Troy Pflibsen officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation for Brianne M. Pals will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Brianne Marie, the daughter of Dighton and Krista Kuhlers Pals, was born Sept. 15, 1989, in Mankato, Minn. At an early age, Brianne's family moved to Belmond. She attended Belmond-Klemme Community Schools and graduated from Belmond-Klemme High School in 2008. Brianne then attended NIACC in Mason City, where she graduated in 2010 with a medical assistant degree. She was currently enrolled in the Mercy School of Radiologic Technology in Mason City. While in high school Brianne participated in numerous activities. She was in softball, basketball, volleyball and track. Brianne worked at the P&G Grocery Store and Kelly's Beach Club. Brianne enjoyed spending time with her many friends, going to Pizza Ranch, getting pedicures, Rollerblading and working-out, but her true enjoyment came from the time she spent with her beloved nieces as Aunt B. Brianne was confirmed at First Reformed Church in Meservey. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond.

Brianne is survived by her parents, Dighton and Krista; sisters, Julia (Shane) Eckhoff, and nieces, Emily, Aubrey and Ryleigh, of Belmond; Alyssa (Ryan) Snider, of Urbandale; maternal grandmother, Pat (Al) Formanek of Clear Lake; paternal grandfather, Dean Pals of Belmond; paternal grandmother, Miriam Kalkwarf of Larkspur, Colo.; maternal great-grandmother, Grace Kuhlers of Belmond; three sets of aunts and uncles, Kent and Kim Kuhlers of Meservey, Olivia and Colton; Kari and Mike Mennenga of Meservey, and Shelby; and Deanna and Dwight Koenen of Latimer, Shaun and Lindsay (Bret) Harrison, and Noah, along with numerous other relatives and friends. Brianne is preceded in death by her grandfather, Marlyn Kuhlers; and great-grandparents, Don and Doris Burk, Fred and Phyllis Pals, Ed Kuhlers, and Ernest and Florence Kalkwarf. Dugger Funeral Home.

Woman killed in morning rollover crash

ROCKFORD — A Belmond woman was killed in a one-vehicle rollover accident in Floyd County Monday morning. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Brianne Marie Pals, 20, was partially ejected from a vehicle at about 4 a.m. Monday on 230th Street east of Foothill Avenue south of Rockford. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the State Patrol. Pals died at the scene.

Pals was a passenger in a 1998 Dodge pickup driven by Ryan Dougherty, 19, of Dougherty. According to the State Patrol, Dougherty exited the driveway of a home at a high rate of speed, lost control, entered a ditch and rolled the pickup. Dougherty was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. A spokesperson at the hospital said Monday night that they had no information about a patient by that name. Dougherty also wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the State Patrol.

Pals was a 2010 graduate of North Iowa Area Community College. She also played basketball and softball at Belmond-Klemme High School.
