DOWS, IA - Faith A. Mandal, 89, of Dows passed away Sunday (Sept. 5, 2010) at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services for Faith A. Mandal will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at the Morgan United Methodist Church east of Dows. Pastor Erling Schultz and Pastor Mark Pluff will officiate. Burial will take place in the Morgan Church Cemetery. Visitation for Faith Mandal will be held for one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Faith Alvera Hackbarth was born on Feb. 1, 1921, the daughter of Ernest and Louise Rankin Hackbarth. Faith was a graduate of Dows Community High School and attended Ellsworth Junior College at Iowa Falls followed by attending Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, where she received her teaching degree. She taught country school in the Morgan and Oakland Township schools for six years. On June 30, 1946, Faith was united in marriage to Conrad Mandal, husband and soul mate for 64 years. After their marriage they lived for a short time in Iowa Falls. To this union, two children were born, Kathie and John. After the death of Faith's father, they moved back to the family farm in Morgan Township and took over the family farming business. Besides working side by side with Connie on the farm, Faith also worked at the Dows Care Center for 20 years as the laundry supervisor, retiring at the age of 80.

Faith will always be remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for her love and patience, and always having the time to sit down with them and entertain them. They always loved to go to Grandma Faith's house. She was a great cook and always had something freshly baked for them. Her gentle and loving smile and keen sense of humor will be missed by all her family.

Faith is survived by her husband, Connie, of 64 years; daughter, Kathie (Neil) Muhlenbruch, Dows; son, John (Cindy) Mandal of Dows; granddaughters, Stacey (Wes) Stover of Huxley and Krystal Muhlenbruch of Vernon, N.J.; grandson, Tyson (Kendra) Muhlenbruch of Des Moines; step-granddaughter, Heather (Eric) Darland of Eagle Grove; step-grandson, Jeremy (Christa) Nichols of Alden; great-grandchildren Brady, Trinity and Blake Stover, Jacob and Haley Jo Darland, and Lexi and Clay Nichols; a sister, Dolores (Richard) Hicks of Hampton; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Milton and Carroll Hackbarth. Dugger Funeral Home, 100 N. Lee St. Dows.
