DAKOTA CITY, IA - Richard "Chris" Christensen, 84, of Dakota City, passed away at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery with full military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119. Visitation is today from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Chris is survived by his sister, Marian Patterson of Ames; step-children, Jake (Virginia) Steil of Livermore, Joyce (Robert) Bannert of Brownsville, TX, and Judy (Dean) Weier of Bradgate; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille; niece, Peggy Ramsey; and brother-in-law, Sheldon Pringle.

Richard Kenneth Christensen, the son of Jens and Sine Christensen, was born March 6, 1925 at Corwith, Iowa. Following his education, Chris enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and was married to Phyllis Christensen. The marriage was later dissolved. He served with the Iowa Highway Patrol from 1948 1951. He then joined the Humboldt Police Department where he served until his retirement in 1983 after 25 years of service. On September 8, 1981, he was united in marriage to Lucille Steil at Mankato, Minnesota and the couple made their home in Dakota City. Lucille passed away in 1994 and Chris continued to maintain his home until his death. Chris was a life-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
