McLEAN, Illinois - The funeral of Rachel E. Grant, 80, of rural McLean, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church, Atlanta, the Rev. Thomas Mack officiating. Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery, McLean. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, with a rosary service at 8 p.m. She died at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday (July 7, 1998) at her residence. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Central Illinois, 720 N. Bond, Springfield, IL 62702.
Mrs. Grant was born Oct. 29, 1917, in Corwith, Iowa, a daughter of Charles W. and Elizabeth Davidson Green. She married Woodrow Grant on Jan. 28, 1939, in Lincoln. He survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Charlene Weaver, San Antonio, Texas; and Connie Swearingen, Tracy, Calif.; one son, Mark Grant, McLean; one sister, Sybil Horn, Bloomington; and five great-grandchildren. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, Julie Hoose Fluno of Spokane, Wash.; Susan Hoose Seay, Belleville; Deborah Hoose of Seattle; Tony Swearingen of Fremont, Calif.; Natalie Swearingen of Stockton, Calif.; Sean Grant, Bloomington; and Jason and Robert Grant, both of McLean; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Mrs. Grant was a graduate of McLean High School and attended Illinois State University. She and her husband farmed in the McLean area until retirement and continued living on the family farm south of McLean. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church, Atlanta, and was a member of the Mount Hope Ladies Aid. She also assisted with many community activities. She was a former member of the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club, McLean, and Y do si do Square Dance Club, Bloomington.
