The Funeral Of Melvin W. Perkins, 88, of 1213 S. Hinshaw St., Bloomington, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Beck Memorial Home, the Rev. Harry Greuel officiating. Burial will be East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be for one hour before services Friday at the memorial home.

Mr. Perkins died at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 24, 1989) at Brokaw Hospital after a short illness. He was born March 30, 1901, in Corwith, Iowa, a son of Delbert J. and Mary C. Chase Perkins. He married Mary A. Kelch on July 20, 1925, in Garner, Iowa. She died May 21, 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Hammond, 205 Willow Creek Village, Bloomington, and Evelyn Irwin, rural Stanford; two brothers, Robert, Butte Willows, Calif., and Rollin, Britt, Iowa; two sisters, Blanche Sluik and Helen Hoover, both of Britt, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by one daughter, five brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Perkins worked for Salzman Auto Salvage, Bloomington, for many years. He then was a self-employed operating engineer until his retirement. He was a member of Teamster Local 26 and the local operating engineers union. Memorials may be made to Bro-Menn Hospice.
