Mrs. James R. Giffen, 73, of 4310 Nakoma Rd., a Madison resident since 1939, died Friday night in a Madison hospital after a long illness. She was the former Jeanette M. Wolcott and was born in 1897 at Belmond, Iowa. She was married on May 12, 1921, at Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Mrs. Giffen was a member a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church here, John Bell chapter of the DAR, Wisconsin Society of the Daughters of the American Colonists, and Eastern Star.

Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, James W., Croften, Md.; a daughter, Mrs Robert E. Woolley, Portage; three sisters, Mrs. George Yepson, Pompano Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Owen Smith, Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Vincent Hough, Somers, Iowa; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Frautschi Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd. here, on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. The family said memorials may be made to the Emphysema Fund. It was requested that flowers be omitted. Funeral rites will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Vernon Forsberg of Westminster Church officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
