Masonic Rites for Eagle Grove Man Precede Burial

EAGLE GROVE—Funeral services for Wesley W. Waddell, 65, who died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Monday were held at the funeral home of Kubitschek and Kastler here Wednesday in charge of the Rev. A. S. Kilbourn of the Congregational church. A Masonic service was also held. The burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove. Pallbearers were Harry Schoonover, Guy Hinkley, Andy Baldner, Roy Comstock, Stanley Bragdon and Harry Dearth.

Mr. Waddell is survived by his wife; two sons, Carl, Denver, Colo., and Robert, Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Isles, Des Moines, and Karleen, Eagle Grove; one brother, Fred Waddell, Huron, S. Dak., and by four sisters, Mrs. Lela Hall, Eagle Grove, Mrs. Anna Stockwell, Long Beach, Cal., Mrs. Elizabeth Purington, Luton, N. Dak., and Mrs. Florence McKay, Burbank, Cal. He was born in Cambridge, Mass., and came to Iowa with the family in 1876 and followed the occupation of a carpenter and builder for many years, until forced to retire on account of ill health. He had received medical attention in the Methodist hospital in Des Moines for over seven months. He was a member of the Eagle Grove Congregational church, the Odd Fellows and of the Masons. The brother, surviving at Huron is the last of nine.

Funeral services for Wesley W. Waddell were held at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon May 15, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Albert S. Kilbourn officiating. Frank Wells sang two appropriate solos. Burial was in the family lot at Rose Hill cemetery.

Wesley Washington Waddell, the son of John and Margaret Wright Waddell, was born in Cambridge, Mass., July 5, 1875, and passed away at the Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon, May 13, his age being at the time of his death 64 years, 10 months and 5 days.

In 1876, the family removed to Iowa settling in Troy township. Later they lived for awhile in Dakota Territory. In a short time they returned to Iowa, becoming among the first families to live in Eagle Grove. For many years he was a contractor and builder in Eagle Grove, sometimes working with his father and brother, the late Tom Waddell, and at other times, independently. The Waddell's built many of the public buildings and fine private residences in this city. Later, he was a leading hardware merchant here.

On February 4, 1906, he was united in marriage to Miss Dora Mae Graves of Hico, Texas. Early in life Mr. Waddell joined the Eagle Grove Congregational church, and served for several years as trustee. He was a member of Bower Lodge No. 464 A.F. & A.M., and the Modern Woodmen. He served for several years on the city council in Eagle Grove.

Besides the widow he is survived by his two sons, Robert of Des Moines and Carl of Denver, Colo.; his two daughters, Mrs. Charles Iles of Des Moines and Karleen at home; by four grandchildren; one brother, Fred of Huron, S. Dak.; and four sisters, Mrs. Annie Stockwell of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Elizabeth Purinton of Lisbon, N. D.; Mrs. Florence McKinney of Burbank, Calif.; and Mrs. Lela Hall of Eagle Grove. There are many nephews and nieces.
