Mrs. Lars P. Moss died at 6:30 Wednesday evening from hurts sustained when the car in which she was riding collided with a truck at the Stryker corner, one mile east of Eagle Grove about 5:45 o'clock. Mr. Moss, who was driving their car was uninjured, except for some slight scratches and bruises. Russell Carpenter, 16, who was driving the truck was not hurt. He was alone in the truck which was coming from the south. The Moss car was going east, and the cars careened north across the intersection and hopped in the ditch, close together, facing the north. Neither vehicle was overturned. Mrs. Moss fell out of the car on the left-hand side.Dr. L. D. MacNaughton was called and discovered at once that the injuries were serious. Mrs. Moss had a fractured skull, fractured hip, and internal hurts. The doctor commandeered a pickup car which had stopped at the scene of the accident. It was unloaded and Mrs. Moss was rushed to the Hamilton county hospital at Webster City. She passed away while she was being prepared for surgery in the operating room. All was in readiness at the hospital as Dr. McNaughton stopped at the Paul Yon farm here and phoned the hospital that a seriously injured patient was coming and that an operation was imperative.
Mr. and Mrs. Moss reside on a farm about 5 miles east and a mile north of Eagle Grove. The husband and seven children survive.
The truck which young Carpenter was driving belonged to John Miller of Eagle Grove. O. J. Satre was owner of the pickup in which Mrs. Moss was taken to Webster City. He was enroute to Eagle Grove on a business errand and came back to Eagle Grove after he reached the Webster City hospital with the injured woman.
Dr. H. P. Walker, county coroner was called and started an investigation of the accident about 7:30. He released the body which was brought to Eagle Grove to the Kubitschek & Kastler funeral home.
The farm at the Stryker corner on the south side of the road is now owned by Holger Christensen and farmed by his son, Wilfred (Stub) Christensen.
