Retired Farmer Killed When Struck by Train Near Eagle Grove

JOHN T. STRYKER BADLY MANGLED

Retired Farmer, Deaf, Fails to Hear Whistle

Eagle Grove — John T. Stryker, 67, retired farmer, was instantly killed Sunday at 1:30 p. m. when he was struck by a northbound Chicago Great Western passenger train a mile south of Eagle Grove. Stryker, returning home carrying a fishing pole and shot gun, was walking down the track about a mile west of Eagle Grove at the time of the accident. It is reported that after the train whistled, Stryker, who is deaf, turned around and looked back but continued going down the track. He is survived by his wife and 2 grown children. Dr. H. P. Walker, Wright county coroner, pronounced it an unavoidable accident. The body was badly mangled. At the time of the accident he had with him several squirrels and a string of fish. Mr. Stryker was a brother of O. A. Stryker, Mrs. Steve Wilcox and Mrs. L. Emericck of Eagle Grove.
The body was taken to a funeral parlor at Eagle Grove and prepared for burial. Funeral arrangements had not been fully completed Monday morning.
