MASON CITY — Cheryl L. Soma, age 59, a native of Belmond and formerly of Eagle Grove, Charles City and most recently of the Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City, died Thursday (Aug. 12, 2010) at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City with her family at her side. Funeral services for Cheryl Soma will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at Andrews Funeral Home, 516 First St. S.E. in Belmond with Carolyn Pflibsen, A.I.M., offciating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home Saturday. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial in Cheryl’s name may wish to direct them in care of the family.

Cheryl was born June 3, 1951, in Belmond, the daughter of Elmer and Sylvia (Chapman) Soma. She was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, and was a member there for much of her life. Cheryl attended school in Belmond and Clarion. She lived in the Eagle Grove Group Home for 26 years, moving to Comprehensive Systems Group Home in Mason City in 2001, enjoying her new home and being closer to her sisters. She lived for a short time at Comp Systems in Charles City before being transferred to Good Shepherd. Cheryl enjoyed going to concerts with her sisters, traveling to Florida to visit family, socializing with friends and dancing. Many will remember Cheryl’s humor, joking and outgoing way.

Cheryl is survived by four sisters, Phyllis (Roland) Jenison, Sandra (Glendon) Losen, Eloise (Robert) Davis and Kathy (Ronald) Schroder, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Sylvia Soma; sister, Audrey Elliott; brother, David Soma; and a niece, Kathy Richter. Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, Iowa.
