Anita Haskins Ekeland, 84, of Parker, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2010. She was born on August 30, 1925 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the daughter of Hubert and Frances (Hall) Haskins. Anita Haskins and Erwin Ekeland graduated from Clarion High School in 1943. On October 30, 1944 they married in Liberal, Kansas where he was training in the United States Army Air Force as a pilot of four engine bombers prior to being sent to the South Pacific in World War II. They were married for 66 years. Anita was a housewife and stayed home to raise their three children: Joel, Trimby and Pamela. Anita was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for 23 years. She was the wedding coordinator for Hilltop U.C.C. for 10 years and a member of the Great Book Club. Anita was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital for 27 years and a member of the Classic Convertible Club. She enjoyed sewing and tailoring.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Parker, CO. She will be buried at the Ft. Logan National Cemetery. Survivors include her husband; children, Joel (Helen) Ekeland of San Antonio, TX, Trimby (Michael) Huffman of Denver, CO and Pamela (Gary) Douglas of Colorado Springs, CO; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
