MESERVEY, IA -- Clarence Edward Kuhlers, 73, of 1433 130th St., Meservey, died Monday (Oct. 7, 1996) at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Reformed Church, Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Meservey.
Clarence Edward Kuhlers was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Thornton, a son of Henry and Elizabeth (Meints) Kuhlers. He was baptized on Nov. 13, 1927, and graduated from catechism in 1941 in the First Reformed Church in Meservey. He attended country school in the Thornton area. He helped his father at home with the farming until he was united in marriage to Elvira Unverferth on Nov. 12, 1944, at the First Reformed Church Parsonage. Following the marriage, they farmed for one year at Ventura and then moved to Meservey where they have lived for the past 50 years. He enjoyed farming and especially driving combine. He also enjoyed fishing in Canada. He looked forward to seeing his grandchildren. He was a deacon and elder in the First Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elvira Kuhlers of Meservey; children, Daryl and his wife, Carmelita, of Auburn, Ala.; Kathy and her husband, Richard Miller, of Meservey; Ronald and his wife, Linda of Klemme; Linda and her husband, Rick Lueders, of Clear Lake; and Chad and his wife, Amy, of Corpus Christi, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Justin Kuhlers, Darren Kuhlers, and Patrick Kuhlers, Brian Miller, Shawn Miller, and Joshua Miller, Ryan Kuhlers, Becky Bluhm, Melissa Kuhlers, Nicole Lueders, Allison Lueders, and Christopher Kuhlers; two great-grandchildren, Zachery Miller and Chelsie Miller; four brothers, Raymond and his wife, Minnie, of Rockwell, Elmer and his wife, Eloise, of Brooksville, Fla., Harry and his wife, Beverly, of Latimer, Iowa, and Milton and his wife, Janice, of Port Salerno, Fla.; one sister, Frances and her husband, Gene Ostendorf, of Dougherty; and one brother-in-law, Harvey Ottman of Sheffield. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.
