BELMOND, IA -- Peter John Kroeger, 83, of Belmond, passed away Sunday (Nov. 19, 1995) at Belmond Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Laurence Garrett officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Home.

Peter was born Jan. 17, 1912, in Schleswig, the son of William and Katie Dorenkamp Kroeger. Peter was raised near Schleswig, and attended country schools there. On March 26, 1932, he was united in marriage with Edna Berghefer at Denison. The couple moved to Belmond in 1942 and farmed around the Meservey area. Peter served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked on road construction from 1953-1973, when he then retired. Peter and Edna spent their winters in the south. Peter loved to play cribbage and go fishing. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Cedar Falls Legion and the Belmond VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; one daughter, Donna Traeger and her husband, Carl, of Belmond;; eight grandchildren, Keith Traeger and his wife, Karen; James Traeger and his wife, Elizabeth; Larry Traeger and his wife, Julie; Craig Traeger and his wife, Dawn; Kevin Traeger and his wife, Joni; Lorie Traeger and her husband, Douglas Page; Kathryn Quam and Christa Traeger; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Arlo and his wife, Daisey, of Denison. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Delores Ewald and Ethel Mundt.
