MASON CITY,IA -- Dennis Leo West, 51, of 15 Sumac Drive, died Saturday (Oct. 28, 1995) in Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Carl Reis officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. A scriptural wake service is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made in his name.
Dennis was born Aug. 26, 1944, in Algona, a son of Wilbert West and Ruth West (nee) Penton. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1963. He was united in marriage with Julie Kunz on Oct. 17, 1964, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wesley. The couple lived in Wesley for 27 years before moving to Nora Springs in 1991. In June of 1995 they moved to Mason City. He was employed at Snap On Tools in Algona, Klein Farm Supply in Algona and the Wesley Lumber Co. In July, 1983, he began work with the Eaton Corporation in Belmond. Dennis's hobbies included camping and traveling in his motor home, as well as collecting model cars. He was a member of A.A. and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City.
He is survived by his wife, Julie, of Mason City; a son, Dan West, of Algona; a daughter, Angie West, of Waterloo; five sisters, Mary Becker and her husband, Bob, of Wesley, Marlys Harris and her husband, Del, of Stigler, Okla., Ellen Peterson and her special friend, Ray Momyer, of Mason City, Robyn Horswell and her husband Steve, of Lake Mills, and Cindy West of Mason City; a brother, Gary West and his wife, Eileen, of Mason City; his mother-in-law, Erma Kunz of Wesley; a brother-in-law, William Kunz of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Julius Kunz.
