THORNTON, IA -- Julia Jacobsen, 80, of 301 N. Sixth St., died Saturday (Sept. 2, 1995) at home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Goehenouer officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 8 p.m. today at Grarup Funeral Home, Thornton.

Julia Jacobsen was born on June 4, 1915, in Belmond, a daughter of Bertus B. Frey and Lydia (nee) Bier Frey. She graduated from the Meservey Consolidated School. She grew up in the Meservey area. On June 4, 1938, she married P.K. Petersen. He passed away on July 9, 1952. On Nov. 14, 1958, she was united in marriage to Carl Jacobsen in Thornton where they made their home. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Woodford Wheeler Lumber Yard both in Thornton and Clear Lake for 31 years. She served the United Methodist Church of Thornton as a Sunday school teacher for 18 years and as a secretary of the Sunday school board. She served as town clerk for the city of Thornton and also held the offices of both president and secretary of the Thornton Ladies Auxiliary. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and reading. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Thornton. She is survived by her husband, Carl Jacobsen of Thornton, and one brother, Bert Frey of Belmond. She was preceded in death by her first husband, parents, one sister and one brother.
