November 5, 1908 -- February 14, 1998

BELMOND, IA — John Folkus Johnson, 89, passed away Saturday (Feb. 14, 1998) at the Belmond Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed Church, Alexander, with the Rev. Gerald Norman officiating. Interment will be in the Alexander Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

John, the son of Cornelius C. And Johana E. Sporaa Johnson, was born Nov. 5, 1908, on the family farm near Alexander. He attended Alexander schools. John farmed with his father until his father retired. He did custom work for area farmers. He then moved to Belmond in 1965, where he worked for Kinseth Plumbing and Heating, retiring in 1978. John lived in the Belmond Apartments for 16 years, entering the Belmond Health Care Center in 1994. He loved to play "Aggravation" and work on radios.

John is survived by three sisters, Jennie Isaacson of Clarion, Irene Markham of Ogden, and Vernadine Kramer and her husband, Louis, of Dassel, Minn.; two brothers, Roman Johnson and his wife, Wilma, of Alexander, and Merlin Johnson and his wife, Donna, of Meservey; one sister-in-law, Minnie Johnson of Belmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Virgil; and one brother in infancy.
