BELMOND, IA — Bert Frey, 86, of Belmond, died Tuesday (Feb. 10, 1998) at the Westview Care Center, Britt. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Reformed Church, Alexander, with the Rev. Gerald Norman officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Bert Frey was born on March 1, 1911, in Belmond, the son of Barney and Lydia (Bier) Frey. He was raised on a farm near Meservey. On Feb. 24, 1938, Bert was united in marriage to Clara Johnson at the Marion Center Parsonage in Franklin County, Iowa. They lived on a farm near Meservey for four years prior to moving to the family farm near Alexander. They farmed for 40 years and then retired to Belmond in 1983. He had a great love for hunting and fishing. Bert was a member of the Ventura Gun Club, where he won numerous trophies and awards. Bert was very fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bert is survived by a daughter, Donna Pals and her husband, Lyle, of Belmond, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kim Funke and her husband, Bryan, of Belmond, Iowa; Sue Theobald and her husband, Dennis, of Clear Lake, Iowa; Dave Pals, of Belmond; and Dan Pals, of Carmel, Ind.; three great-grandchildren, Amy and Adam Funke, of Belmond, and Josh Theobald, of Clear Lake, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara in 1996; two sisters; and one brother.
