17 May 1879 -- 30 April 1947

Funeral Services Held Sun., May 4 For J. I. Peer

James Irwine Peer, son of Henry and Keziah Peer was born at Dexter, Iowa, May 17, 1879, one of a family of nine children, and passed away April 30, 1947, at Renwick, Iowa. He received his early education in the Dexter Public School and continued this education in normal College and Drake University. In the fall of 1906, after teaching school in the Adel and Dexter vicinities, he came to Renwick where he taught school for nine years. At various times he worked in the bank, was City Clerk and served on the school board.

May 11, 1910, he was married to Lora Tanck. To this union three children were born: Norman of Renwick, Carmen of Eagle Grove, and Corwin of Algona. After leaving the teaching profession he was mail carrier for two years and in the spring of 1916 moved to the farm, in which work he continued until last spring when he retired because of illness. Early in life he became a member of the Methodist Church and in whatever community he lived, his first thought was that of his church home. His fine Christian life was shown by his eagerness to attend any and all church services and take an active part as long as he was able, after which he partially satisfied this eagerness through the church services of the radio and the frequent visits of his pastor.

It is nice to think that he took time out from his daily labors to enjoy his flowers and his music which he dearly loved. He was a patient sufferer, never complaining, but the love for his family and the longing for continued service to his church and community gave him the desire to live. He made many friends among his students and retained those friendships throughout the years which was exemplified by the courtesies to him during his illness. He greatly enjoyed the time his many friends spent with him during the recent months.

Besides these, he leaves to mourn his wife, three children, one grandson, Gary William Peer, one brother, one sister and many other relatives. Funeral services were held Sunday May 4, at the Renwick Methodist church with Rev. P. W. Neal, assisted by Rev. R. E. Cook, in charge. The music consisted of "The Lord's Prayer," by Mrs. Helen Nelson; "Thou Shalt Rest At Ease," Mrs. Dick Hefty; "Lead Kindly Light" and "Be Still My Soul" by the choir. Mrs. D. J. Christenson was accompanist. Pallbearers were Roy McCurry, Moine Yanney, Floyd Lane, Carroll Richardson, and Wilson Legler. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Beenen Funeral Service. Burial was at Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield, Iowa.
