Ray Peterson, age 80, passed away on November 21, 2009, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. Ray Edward Peterson was born on March 30, 1929, at Rolfe. He was the son of Robert Norman and Cora (DeMoss) Peterson. Ray was educated at Rolfe. His family moved to southern Iowa for a short period of time and later moved to Fort Dodge. Ray worked for Vincent Clay Works before entering the US Army in 1951. On December 3, 1954, Ray married Donna Butters at Dakota City, NE. The couple lived in Fort Dodge for the next seven years where Ray worked for the National Gypsum Mill. During that time, the couple had a son, Ray, Jr. and daughters, Susanna, Linda and Joan. They next moved to Duncombe, and the couple had a set of twins, Robert and Pamela, who died in infancy. They later moved to Humboldt where Ray worked for a farmer. A son Robert, was born during that time. They later moved to Thor and Ray worked for a farmer. A son, Rod was born during that time. The family moved to Rolfe, where Ray worked taking trees out along creek banks. And son Daniel was born then. Ray worked for Midwest Limestone Co. and Halet’s Limestone Co. in Gilmore City. He later worked for the Co-op in Gilmore City, retiring in the mid 1980’s due to health problems. The couple moved to Humboldt and after three and a half years, Ray entered Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. Ray had been a member of the Methodist Church and the Bradgate VFW. He enjoyed fishing and gardening in his spare time. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife: Donna; children: Ray (Suzie) Peterson of Reno, NV, Susanna (Buddy) MacRunnel of Rolfe, Linda (Lyle) Johnson of Gilmore City, Joan (Dan) Turner of Rolfe, Robert (Becky) Peterson of Rutland, Rod Peterson of Dakota City and Dan Peterson of Gilmore City; seventeen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; brothers: Norman Peterson of Humboldt and Floyd (Norma) Peterson of Rolfe and sister, Betty Wright of Salem, OR. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, twins, Robert and Pamela, sister, Ann and brother, Don.
