GARNER, IA — Louis J. Jurgemeyer, 77, died Saturday (May 9, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garner, with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery, Garner, with graveside military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner.

Louis John Jurgemeyer was born April 13, 1921, on a farm in Ell Township in Hancock County to William and Anna (Sandersfeld) Jurgemeyer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner. He attended the rural schools of Ell Township. Louis served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from September 1942 to July 1945 in the South Pacific. After the service, he returned to the Klemme Area.

On Nov. 18, 1945, he married Lucille Hartbeck at Immanuel Evangelical Reform Church in Klemme. They farmed in the Klemme area until they retired in 1986. In 1992, they moved into Garner. Louis continued to help with the farming until his health declined. He enjoyed farming, taking care of his machinery, fishing, traveling and his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee, served on the board of Hancock County Coop Oil and belonged to the VFW.

Louis is survived by his wife, Lucille Jurgemeyer, of Garner; four children, Leland Jurgemeyer of Klemme, Duane Jurgemeyer and his wife, Linda, of Klemme, Carol Ann Ames and her husband, Mark, of Rockwell, and David Jurgemeyer and his wife, Justine, of Ankeny; seven grandchildren, Amy, Lisa and Kimberly Jurgemeyer, Jeremy and Jennifer Ames, and Shaun and Holli Jurgemeyer; a brother, Everett Jurgemeyer, and his wife, Marjorie, of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Gladys Jurgemeyer, of Garner; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alfred Jurgemeyer; and a sister, Ruth Bachman, and her husband, Earl.
