THORNTON, IA - Myrl H. Miller, 87, of Thornton, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 14, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church, Thornton, with Pastor Rose Calderon-Khan officiating. Burial will be at Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, with full military rites conducted by the Anton-Juhl Post 440 American Legion, Thornton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at the Retz Funeral Home, 107 N. Second St. Thornton.

Myrl was born on Oct. 15, 1921, in Barron, Wis., to Hubert and Erma (Springer) Miller. He started his religious beliefs thru Baptism and Confirmation in Geneva. Myrl graduated from Geneva High School in 1940. In 1944, Myrl was drafted into the Army. After training and before being sent to WWII, Myrl married Iva Brady in Taunton, Mass. After being released from service, Myrl came back to Iowa, where he and Iva farmed in Klemme, then in rural Thornton. They were the proud parents of three boys and one girl.

Myrl is survived by his wife of 65 years, Iva Miller; three sons, Richard (Kathy) Miller of Meservey; David (Mary) Miller of Manchester, Mo.; and Dale (Nancy) Miller of Thornton; eight grandchildren, Melanie Engebretson, Mindy Miller, Brian Miller, Shawn Miller, Joshua Miller, Sarah Miller, Karen Miller, and Chris Miller; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Miller of Oregon; three sisters, Nona Rothchild, of California, Darlene Brown, of Oregon, and Marge Taylor, of California; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beth Bahr; and daughter, Nancy Miller. Retz Funeral Home.
