Eva A. Larsen, 86, of Alexander, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 13, at United Methodist Church in Alexander with Pastor Craig Larsen officiating. Interment was at Alexander Cemetery near Alexander. Music was provided by Carol Richards, organist; Marvin Draper, vocalist. Casket bearers were Verlyn Andrews, Arlington Hillman, Melvin Schlichting, Dane Barkema, Virgil Larsen and Dennis Viet. Ushers were Dallas Card and Marvin Draper.

Eva, the daughter of Charlie and Jennie Gartz Barkema, was born September 29, 1915 on a farm northeast of Alexander. She attended Alexander school and Pleasant No. 5 rural school. She then worked as a housekeeper for families in the Alexander area. On March 13, 1946, she was united in marriage with Elmer Larsen. The couple made their home and farmed north of Alexander. Eva was a member of the United Methodist Church in Alexander. She enjoyed reading, gardening and raising flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Eva is survived by her husband Elmer; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Rick and Linda Larsen of Osage, Harold and Angela Larsen of Rochester, MN, and Paul Larsen of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Lori and her husband Arly, Charles, Shawn, Anna, and Mark; three sisters, and one brother-in-law, Emily Larsen of Mason City, Lois Pals of Belmond, and Maurine and Kenneth VerHelst of Belmond; numerous nieces and nephews.
