Helen Barry, 85, of Belmond died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001 at Heritage Care Center in Mason City. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 10, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond with Fr. David Beckman and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Interment was at St. Francis Cemetery near Belmond. Music was provided by Maxine Whitty, organist; Cyndy McNulty, cantor. Jim Houser was lector; Pat Schmit and Veronica Benetti were eucharistic ministers. Ushers were Joe McLaughlin and LeRoy Carolus. Casket bearers were Dick McCarville, Dr. A.F. Benetti, John Myers, Wilmer Gabrielson, Dave Goeman and Terry Anderson.

Helen Harbacheck, the daughter of Frank and Bernadette (Colford) Harbacheck, was born on a farm near Fort Dodge, on July 15, 1915. The family lived on the family farm until her father retired and moved to Fort Dodge. She received her education in Moorland School and later at Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. Following graduation she worked as a bookkeeper in Fort Dodge. She was united in marriage to Raymond Barry on September 26, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Dodge. They made their home in Goodell. They had two daughters, Martha and Mary Ann. Helen continued to live in their home in Goodell until moving to Belmond in 1995. Helen always had an interest in antiques; enjoyed quilting, china painting, and making porcelain dolls. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters, and Kensington Club. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Raymond in 1985; sister, Mary Francis in 1976; and nephew David Barry in 1997. Survivors are her daughters, Martha Barry and Mary Ann Barry, both of Mason City; sisters-in-law, Sister James Mary of Sinsinawa, WI, Florence Barry of Lakewood, CO; and nieces and nephews.
