Julia Swenson, 88, of Belmond, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at the Belmond Medical Center in Belmond. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 10, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Rod Hopp and Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Interment was at the St. Olaf Church Cemetery near Belmond. Music was provided by Carol Severson, organist; Marilyn Janssen, vocalist. Casket bearers were Dave Nelson, Paul Rokke, Don Goeman, Jr., Trev Snyder, Wayne Lonnevik, and Raymond Stockseth. Ushers were Alfred Johnson and Cliff Toft.

Julia Marie Anderson, the daughter of Charles and Anna Thompson Anderson, was born September 2, 1912, in Eufalla, OK. The family moved to a farm near Clarion when Julia was two. She attended rural school and graduated from Clarion High School. She taught elementary school in rural Wright and Hancock County. Julia and Earl Swenson were married on March 23, 1935. They farmed together near Clarion and Belmond and were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. They had two children, Sandra and Dennis. Julia enjoyed flowers, gardening and baking. She enjoyed helping people.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; three brothers, George, Charles, and Alvin; and one sister, Millie Smit. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Mervyn Eliason of Orland Park, IL; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Mary Swenson of Belmond; four grandchildren, Jean Marie Eliason and her husband Steve Tubbs, Jon, Kimberly and Jeff Swenson; one great grandson, Jonathan; five sisters and three brothers-in-law , Betty and Hank Delger, Gladys Spainhower, and Helen Busick, all of Clarion; Ruth and Harold Lamfers of Salina, KS, and Arlene and Brad Smith of St. Cloud, MN; two brothers, Norville and Millie Anderson of Clarion, Roger and Sharon Anderson of Independence; three sisters-in-law, Esther Polmateer of Kingdom City, MO, and Ruth and Evelyn Anderson of Clarion.
