Della Peterson, 80, long time Goodell correspondent for the Belmond Independent, died January 8 at the Belmond hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 11 at 2 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with burial in the St. Olaf Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Tenold Funeral Home Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Della Irene Peterson, 80, died Monday, January 8, 2001 at Belmond Medical Center in Belmond. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 11, 2001 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Belmond, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Interment was in St. Olaf's Church Cemetery. Music was provided by Carol Severson, organist and Susan Toftey, vocalist. Ushers were Alfred Johnson and Clifford Toft. Honorary bearers were: Angie Peterson, Teri Lewerke, Jodi Peterson, Shamar Meyer, Jennifer Peil, Tina Summers, Lori Walczyk, Christine Holst, Shea Peterson, Trina Smith, Traci Torgerson, Jesi Peterson, Sasha Meyer, Larinda Mongon, and Billy Smith. Casket bearers were: Brad Peterson, Steve Peterson, Scott Peterson, John Walczyk, Dan Peterson, and Jeff Haley.

Della Irene Peterson, the daughter of Emil and Della (Hayden) Peterson, was born March 12, 1920, on a farm near Kanawha. She lived in Blue Earth, MN, Clear Lake and later Belmond, where she met and married Lauretz Peterson on January 12, 1941. They lived in Belmond and later Goodell, and moved to the Belmond Community Apartments in 1992. Della worked for the Garner Leader for about 20 years, and the Belmond Independent for more than 30 years as the Goodell correspondent. She also did babysitting for many kids in the Goodell area and was called Grandma Della by many. She enjoyed baking and spending time with her family and friends. She was a longtime member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Della is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lauretz, in 1993; daughter, Marilyn, in 1990; two brothers, one sister and two nephews. Survivors include seven children: Leslie Peterson and his wife, Diane, of Meservey, Merle (Alan) Peterson and his wife, Shirlee, of Britt, Mike Peterson, of Belmond, David Peterson and significant other, Sally Hjelle, of Rockford, Marje Peterson of Crystal Lake, Lorna Holst and her husband, Mike, of Goodell, and Doug Peterson and his wife, Kelly, of Garner; special friend Deb Willig, of Crystal Lake; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers Walton Peterson and his wife, Verna, of Rochester, MN, Merle Peterson and his wife, Alverta, of Waverly, and Arthur Peterson and his wife, Alta, of Fort Dodge; brothers-in-law, John Peterson and his wife, Mavis, of Belmond, Christie Peterson and his wife, Blondie, of Goodell, and Les Meres, of Fairmont, MN; sisters-in-law, Lula Bell and her husband Frederick, of Klemme, Elaine Woiwood and her husband, Ernie, of Garner, and Edna Peterson, of Corwith; and many nieces and nephews.
