21 March 1904 -- 13 December 1987

Arne Berg, 83, of Clarkfield, Minnesota, died Sunday, December 13, 1987, at the Clarkfield Care Center. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 1987, from Clarkfield Lutheran Church with Pastor John T. Christiansen officiating. Organist was Karen Donner with vocal solos by Mr. Loren Norgaard and Pastor John Christiansen. Final Resting Place is the Israel Lutheran Church of Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. Casket Bearers were Kenneth, Scott and Tim Berg, Ronald Gunderson, Eric and Steve Hubbard, Marlyn Johnson, Timothy Travis, Bradley Van Binsbergen and Irvin Willander.

Arne France Berg was born in Thor, Iowa, on March 21, 1904, to Carl and Caroline (Opheim) Berg. He was baptized at Thor Lutheran Church. In 1911 he moved with his parents to Clarkfield. He was confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church on June 22, 1919, by Rev. O. J. Storaasli. He married Edith Larson on March 8, 1932. To this union four children were born, Phyllis (Mrs. Oscar Waller), Arden, Earl and Dale all of Clarkfield. They lived on a farm southwest of Clarkfield where he farmed and had a trucking and corn shelling business. In 1970 he retired from farming and moved to Clarkfield in 1975. In 1982 Arne and Edith celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He had been hospitalized since 1986 and entered the Care Center in January 1987.

He is survived by his wife; four children; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; brothers Clarence, Wilhelm, Art and Harold; and sisters Judith Rysdahl and Clara Severson. Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters Christine, Mamie and Joella and Alfred Hagren.
