Roy Underwood, 78, longtime Webster City resident, died Sunday morning at the Hamilton County hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. He had been in ill health for four years. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral home with Tom Waters officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Roy Underwood, son of Earl and Helen Jane Segar Underwood, was born June 14, 1901 at Webster City. He was reared and educated at Webster City. He was married Dec. 8, 1920 to Elva J. Kepler and the couple lived on a farm north of Webster City. On March 7, 1934, he was united in marriage to Ester L. Yanus, and the couple resided in Webster City. She preceded him in death April 30, 1968. He was formerly employed by the Royal 400 gas station.

He is survived by one son, Earl Dean Underwood of Hawthorne, Calif., 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and also several cousins, three of whom, Harold and Harley Mellinger of Webster City and Mrs. Abby Winget of Des Moines, were reared in the Earl Underwood home. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, his parents and one brother. He had resided at Southfield Care Center the past five years.
