ANOTHER SUDDEN DEATH

S. J. Barber Suddenly Expires From Stroke of Apoplexy at His Home on West Second Street

SEVENTY-ONE YEARS OF AGE

Resided Here for Twenty-two Years --Mail Carrier on Rural Route One

S. J. Barber died very suddenly at his home on West Second street yesterday afternoon at about 3 o'clock. He had been feeling rather poorly during the past two or three days, but was up and around the house. However, yesterday afternoon he did not feel so well and a few moments after lying down upon his bed he suddenly expired, his death being due to apoplexy.

Stephen J. Barber was a native of New York, having been born in that state on June 29, 1841. He would therefore have been 71 years of age in a few days. He was twice married, his second wife surviving him.

Mr. Barber came to this city twenty-two years ago and had lived here since that time. For several years he has occupied the position of rural mail carrier and served the patrons on rural route No. 1 out of this city. He was a soldier in the civil war and a member of the local G. A. R. post. The deceased was well known in this community. He was an upright citizen and a good man and his sudden demise brings sorrow to a large circle of friends and acquaintances.

Aside from his wife, Mr. Barber leaves three sons and two daughters to mourn this going hence -Will S. and Jerome Barber, who live at home; Mrs. Albert Curtis, also of this city; B. B. Barber of Worthington, Minnesota, and Mrs. M. B. Gordon, of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

The funeral services will be held at the Christian church, of which society the deceased was an honored member, next Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by his pastor, Rev. A. I. Martin.
