Oscar Kepler dies at 93

Oscar D. Kepler, 93, lifelong resident of Webster City, died Friday afternoon at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge. He had been in ill health for several years. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Marvin E. Brewer officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery. Oscar David Kepler, son of Jerome and Emily Kepler, was born March 20, 1876, on a farm near Webster City. He was reared and educated in Webster City and for many years was an employee of the former Whitson Grocery store. He was united in marriage Aug. 28, 1902 to Bessie Mae Smith, and the couple farmed northeast of Webster City until 1909, moving then into Webster City to their home at 502 River St. He is survived by five sons and two daughters: Eugene, Howard, Ralph and Donald Kepler and Mrs. Virgil (Verna) Claude, all of Webster City, Robert Kepler of Galt, Ontario, Canada, and Mrs. W.A. (Doris) Willadsen of West Des Moines; 24 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on April 7, 1968; by two sons, four daughters, his parents, one brother and two sisters. Mr. Kepler was baptized in the Christian faith and was a member of the Church of Christ.
