MASON CITY, IA – Charlene A. Wedmore, 84, of Mason City, died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the Concord Care Center in Garner, IA. Inurnment will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 13, 2009, at Memorial Park Cemetery with memorial services at 11:00 AM, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 12, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Charlene A. Wedmore Fund.
Charlene was born February 11, 1925, in Fairmont, MN, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Chizek) Klunder. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1943. On July 4, 1945, she and Don Wedmore were united in marriage in Mason City and from that union came five children. During the 1960’s, she was a bartender at the Friendly Inn in Nora Springs. She also worked for Stage Coach for the majority of her working career as a custodian. Charlene enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo, and playing cards.
She is survived by four children, Randy Wedmore and wife Cheryl of Gilbert, AZ, JoDee Ward and husband Gene of Garner, IA, Donna Theis of Chandler, AZ, Jim Wedmore and wife Deb of Gilbert, AZ; daughter-in-law, Marsha Wedmore of Rockwell, IA; 10 grandchildren, LeeAnn Mosher of Clear Lake, IA, Kara Fanning of Queens Creek, AZ, Katie Cloyd of Mesa, AZ, Denny Graham of North Branch, MN, Matt Graham of Garner, Cory Graham of Garner, Chad Wedmore of Gilbert, AZ, Amber Wilson of Weston, FL, Abbey Pitzenberger of Rockwell, and Adam Wedmore of Rockwell; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Donald; son, Terry; parents; brothers and sisters.
