Donald E. Wedmore, 76 of Mason City died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa. Inurnment will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 2, 2004 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veteran’s Memorial Association. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 2, 2004 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Bill Poland officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Donald E. Wedmore Memorial Fund.
Donald was born on July 14, 1927 in Mason City, Iowa the son of Clarence and Beulah (Carey) Wedmore. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1945. Don served in the United States Army Air Corps. Reserve in World War II. He was united in marriage with Charlene Klunder on July 4, 1945 in Mason City, Iowa. Don was a Lieutenant for the Mason City Fire Department and retired in 1983 following 26 years of service. He also worked security for Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa for 16 years retiring in 1989. Don was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Moose Lodge. He was also active in: Degree of Honor, Iowa Professional Firefighters Association, Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon and the Fill the Boot Campaign. Don was head of a nine county area and attended the national convention three times for the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon where he conducted workshops. He was also the 4th District Representative to the International Association of Firefighters in Las Vegas. Don was an avid University of Iowa Hawkeyes and L.A. Dodgers Fan. He always enjoyed playing a game of cards wherever he went.
Don is survived by his wife, Charlene Wedmore of Mason City; son, Randy Wedmore and wife Cheryl of Gilbert, Arizona; daughter, JoDee Ward and husband Gene of Garner; daughter, Donna Theis of Chandler, Arizona; son, Jim Wedmore and wife Deb of Gilbert, Arizona; daughter-in-law, Marsha Wedmore of Rockwell, Iowa; ten grandchildren: LeeAnn Leitner of Mason City, Kara Wedmore of Gilbert, Arizona, Katie Cloyd of Mesa, Arizona, Denny Graham of North Branch, Minnesota, Matt Graham of Garner, Iowa, Cory Graham of Stuttgart, Germany, Chad Wedmore of Gilbert, Arizona, Amber Wedmore of West Palm Beach, Florida, Abbey Pitzenberger of North Liberty, Iowa, Adam Wedmore of Rockwell, Iowa and ten great-grandchildren.
