Services Wednesday Mrs. Joyce Melhus, long time resident of this community, passed away at the University hospital in Iowa City, Tuesday, Feb. 22, after a lingering illness, at the age of 59 years. Alma Lucinda Melhus, daughter of John and Ann Jones, was born November 28, 1906, at Clinton, Illinois. She was baptized and confirmed a member of the Lutheran church. On May 22, 1926 she was united in marriage to Joyce E. Melhus in Eagle Grove. To this union were born four children: Larry of Savanna, Illinois, Donna (Mrs. Richard Evans) of Britt, Russell of Belmond and Janet (Mrs. Paul Gould) of Panama City, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Joyce, four children, fifteen grandchildren, four brothers, Dick of San Bernardino, California, Earl of Decatur, Illinois, Jack of Joppa, Maryland, Leonard of Winner, South Dakota and Harold of Little Rock, Arkansas, and one sister, Nellie (Mrs. Telford Larson) of Kanawha.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Services were held Friday at 2:30 p. m. at the First Lutheran church in Clarion with Richard A. Larson, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery in Clarion with the Eyler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Olaf Watne, Delbert Anderson, Harold Dahlgren, Vernon Rohrer, Norris Odland and Albert Amonson.

Two selections, "Beneath the Cross of Jesus" and "Abide With Me" were sung by Mrs. Don Schroeder accompanied by Wayne Ebert. "Rock of Ages" was sung by the congregation. The noon meal was served by the Martha Circle of the Lutheran church
and the members of the Lincoln Ladies Union served lunch following the services.

Relatives and friends were present from Decatur, Illinois; Belvidere, Illinois, Albert Lea, Minnesota; San Bernardino, California; Ridgeland, Wisconsin; winner, South Dakota; Emery, South Dakota; Panama City, Florida; Joppa, Maryland; Des Moines, Ellsworth, Goodell, Ames, Williams, Blairsburg, Belmond, Britt, Thor, Eagle Grove, Webster City, Clear Lake, Holmes, Osage, Clarion, Galt, Dows and Kanawha.
