Dr. Fatland, Dentist, Dies at Colfax Home

Was Colfax Dentist For 32 years; Rites Thursday Afternoon

Colfax, IA (Special) - Funeral services for Dr. O. S. Fatland, 56, Colfax dentist who died at his home yesterday following a long illness will be held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Presbyterian church here. Officiating will be Rev. W. E. Dutton and Masonic services also will be conducted. Burial will be in the Colfax cemetery, Bumgardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. D. Fatland was a dentist in Colfax for 32 years, and was well known locally and over the state. Mrs. Fatland is president of the Iowa Congress of Parents and teachers and also heads the Iowa chapter of F. E. O.

Dr. Fatland was born in Cambridge, Ia. on Jan. 30, 1895, to John Henry and Sarah Fatland. He graduated from the State University of Iowa dentistry college in 1918, following which he joined the Army medical corps as a dentist during World War I. On June 30, 1920, he married Luella B. Larson at Clarion and the couple set up housekeeping in Colfax where Dr. Fatland had established his practice the year before as a partner of Dr. R. G. Anspach.

A well-known musician, Dr. Fatland was a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine band in Des Moines for 28 years and also played in the moose, Argonne Legion Post and Municipal bands. In 1927 he went to Paris, France, with the championship Monohan Post bad of the Legion. His activities include membership in Masonic Lodge 389, the Shrine, Rose of Sharon Order of Eastern Star and the Jones-Willis American Legion post. He was a former trustee of the Presbyterian church, an officer of the Colfax Sanitarium, a member of the school board and the Commercial club.

Survivors are his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Katheryn Jean) Borg of Des Moines; one son, Dr. John Fatland on duty with the Navy at Pensacola, Fla., three grandchildren, three brothers and four sisters.
