ALVA "AL" SIEBELS

OSAGE, Iowa - Alva J. Siebels, 98, of Osage, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 833 Ash St., Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage.

Alva J. Siebels was born Oct. 29, 1901, at Amber, the son of Augusta and Grace (Oltman) Siebels. He attended a one-room school until the age of 8, when the family moved to Monticello. He graduated from Monticello High School. He worked in a drug store earning money to attend the University of Iowa, where he majored in pharmacy and graduated in 1928. He worked in several places and came to Osage in 1932, where he worked for Brown and Lashbrook drug store. He married Ellen Walstad in 1935. The couple moved to Eagle Grove in 1937 and later to Cherokee. In 1942 they moved to Moline, Illinois, where they lived for 50 years. The couple returned to Osage in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen, of Osage; one son, Allen Siebels and wife, Deborah, of Hiram, Georgia; one stepdaughter, Shirley Serleth and husband, Morris, of Osage; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
