MASON CITY - Iola C. Wells, 91, of 1037 19th St. S.W., died Thursday (Sept. 27, 2001) at the IOOF Home, Mason City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 120 First St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Warren Frelund officiating. Interment will be in Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. A Queen Rebekah Lodge service will beginning at 4 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Episcopal Church.
Iola C. Wells was born April 22, 1910, in Goodell, the daughter of Fred R. and Elva B (Lange) Chase. She graduated from Garner High School in 1927 and moved to Mason City in 1928. Iola married Lon A. Wells on Aug. 2, 1937, in Mason City. Iola worked for Roshecks Department Store in Dubuque for 18 years and was a department store buyer for Younkers for many years retiring in 1970. Following her retirement, she went to work as a secretary at the Iowa Odd Fellows office in Des Moines. Iola was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, a 42-year member of Queen Rebekah Lodge, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and RSVP. She enjoyed bowling golf and traveling.
Iola is survived by one sister, Nettie A. Delahoyde of Clear Lake; a brother, Jess A. Chase and his wife, Helen, of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Marvel; and three brothers, Gerald, Clifford and Dale. Major Erickson Funeral and Crematory.
