Mr. Charles Bauer was born in Wurtenberg, Germany, August 10th, 1844. He came with his parents to Sauk Co., Wis., in 1852. Having been of the Lutheran perantage he was baptized in infancy and educated in the Lutheran faith, but was never confirmed. At the age of 22 years he came to Hamilton county, Iowa, where he engaged in farming near Kamrar. October 12th, 1876, he united in marriage with Louisa Schweppe to whom five children were born. The first born, Ida Hermina, died at the age of three years. He died at his farm home near Kamrar, March 12th, 1899, aged 54 years, 7 months and 2 days. He leaves a wife and four children, three daughters and one son; also three brothers and one sister, the latter of Charles City, Iowa, together with a large concourse of friends to mourn his departure. His sister, his oldest brother, Fred and wife from Eagle Grove, and his brother-in-law, Fred Schweppe, were constant attendants at his bedside during the last weeks of his illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the residence one-half mile south of Kamrar, with sermon by Rev. Dr. Jacoby, John H. Lee, while not in the undertaking business, was insisted upon as conductor of the burial, which he kindly consented to do.
