GOODELL, IA - Lyle Eugene Anderson, 63, died Friday (Feb. 4, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Randy Nielson officiating. Interment will be in Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond, and will resume one hour prior to the services at the church Monday.

Lyle Eugene Anderson was born on Feb. 12, 1936, of Norwegian and Scottish lineage, to Albert John and Bernice Lucille (Fraser) Anderson. He was raised and nurtured in the farming environment of the Holmes-Clarion area and of the Lutheran faith, in which he was confirmed at Holmes Norwegian Lutheran Church. Lyle was a product of the one-room country school, culminating in graduation from Clarion Public High School, where he was active in agricultural activities and wrestling. Most of Lyle's adulthood was spent as a farmer in the Belmond and Kanawha area. He worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City the last six years. Upon leaving the farm, he and his beloved wife of 31 years, Jan, made their home a place of receptive warmth in Goodell, where Lyle served as a member of the Goodell City Council.

Lyle's intense passion for reading was one of his greatest means of relaxation. He also reveled in traveling. Both activities fueled his curiosity and resulted in thought-provoking conversations when the opportunity presented itself. He marveled at the historical and current conquests of man and nature. The latest expression of this interest was his and Jan's recent visit to the pyramids of southern Mexico. Lyle's humorous dry wit and willingness to laugh at his own shortcomings was a trademark of his interaction with others. But his care, love, concern and readiness to meet the needs of the immediate and extended family is the primary legacy he leaves.

Lyle passed on to greener pastures the morning of Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, in the presence of his family at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City. He is survived by his wife, Jan, Goodell; two sons, Dana Anderson, Glendale, Ariz., and Terry Anderson and his wife, Becky, Sheldon; three daughters, Stephanie Ackerman, Neosho, Mo., Chandra Carton and her husband, Ronald, Goodell, and Denise Nelson, Hartley; 10 grandchildren, Dana II, Laura, Jessica, Kylie, Lacey, Matt, Jennifer, Daniel, Justin and Bridgette; two brothers, Lowell Anderson and his wife, Connie, Clarion, and Leslie Anderson and his wife, Marlene, Nevada; and a multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Bernice; and a son-in-law, Rodney Nelson. Tenold Funeral Home.
