George Strain -- Loving Husband and Father born in Eagle Grove, Iowa to Jesse and Nellie passed way on May 6th at the age of 88. George joined the Navy at 18 and served on the USS St. Louis which survived many scrapes during WWII, not the least of which was the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. Though he didn't talk much about his war time experience he was proud of his service to his country. He met and married Johanna (Babe) Van Schoorl in 1944. George taught their sons Jerry and Rod to fish and enjoy the outdoors. He was very active in Little League Baseball in Kirkland. He retired from the Glaziers Union after 35 years and spent many hours during his retirement years traveling, woodworking and doing stained glass. George is survived by his wife of 65 years Johanna; sons George Jr (Lynne), Rod; 8 grandchildren Matt (Dedrie), Dave (Nicole), Ed (Stacey), Jaime (Pete), Kim (Chris), Sarah, Jessica (Andrew), Emily and 6 great grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday May 18th at 3:00 p.m. at St Luke's Lutheran Church 3030 Bellevue Way Northeast Bellevue, WA 98004.
