FARNHAMVILLE, IA - Ernest L. (Ernie) Thompson, age 87, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 15, 1:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville with Pastor Robert Zellmer officiating. Burial will be in the Reading Township Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #510 of Farnhamville. Friends may call after 12:00 noon Saturday, May 15 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville. Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include son, Jerry Thompson and daughter, Mary Ann Bugily of Eagle Grove; 4 grandchildren; brother Mervin Thompson of Fort Dodge and sister, Eleanor Lowe of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Rose (Volviege) Thompson; wife, Hilma; three sisters and three brothers.

Ernest L. Thompson was born on November 3, 1922 in Humboldt County where he attended country schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and later worked at Horn Manufacturing in Fort Dodge. Ernie was united in marriage with Hilma Hirschberg on June 20, 1948 at Farnhamville. They farmed in the Farnhamville area. Ernie also worked for the Farnhamville Co-op in the feed milling and grain departments from 1959 to 1984. Ernie was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #510 of Farnhamville. Memorials may be left for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville.
