Mr. Donald G. Strever of Comfort, Texas passed away in the Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg, Texas on Friday, April 2nd, 2010 at the age of 71 years. Donald was born in Clarion, Iowa the son of Victor Earl Strever and Barbara Elaine Duitcher. He grew up and attended High School in Clarion. After graduation enlisted in the U. S. Navy in Des Moines, Iowa on June 20th, 1956, where he spent over twenty years before his retirement at the Naval Air Station, Alameda, California on August 9th, 1976, attaining the rank of Senior Chief Air Traffic Control man. While in the service he was awarded the Navy Meritorious Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Occupation Medal; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm; Unit Citation Medal; National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal. After his naval retirement went to work for Cascade Gas as a customer service specialist and gas load specialist which he also retired from. Donald married Phyllis Ann Fairburn on October 16th, 2000 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in law, Gid Ketchum Survivors include his wife Phyllis Ann Strever of Comfort, Texas, daughter & spouse, Kelly & Allen Gillman of San Diego, CA., grandson, Donald Joseph Gillman of San Diego, two sisters and spouses, Ardith & Eugene Frohling of Clarion, Barbara Ketchum of Hayden Lake, Idaho, brother in law & spouse, Robert & Donna Bookman of Kennedy, Texas Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 5th, 2010 at 2:00 P. M. in the VFW Hall in Kerrville, Texas, located at 220 Thompson Drive in Kerrville. Graveside services and Interment will take place at a later date in his home town of Clarion, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Schaetter Funeral Home of Comfort.
